Gold Coast Rally
Palm Sunday Vigil – 16 March 4-6.30pm @ Burleigh Heads
This is to introduce the Gold Coast Palm Sunday Vigil organised by Gecko Nuclear Free, a campaign of Gecko - Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council. It is the first Palm Sunday Vigil for the Gold Coast, organised through Gecko, and its focus is on peace, harmony and sustainability.
Speakers and entertainment from singer Debbie Norris with her guitarist son David will precede a candlelit vigil to promote the message that peace is not only possible but essential to the health of this planet and its people.
The focus of our Palm Sunday vigil is a positive, not a negative one. It reminds us that peace is possible but it must be actively pursued. The crises we now face require all of us including our leaders to consider our place and responsibility on earth and to take action.
We are being called upon to make the connection between peace, justice and caring for the earth and all its inhabitants. We can start right now by becoming conscious of the connectedness and interdependence of all things. Palm Sunday is a fitting time to begin this.
Palm Sunday is a uniting force for people of diverse opinions and political creeds. We acknowledge its particular significance for Christians with the strewing of palms in the path of Jesus as he arrived in Jerusalem to great celebration. Palm Sunday has over time come to serve as a focus for Christian cooperation, peace, Aboriginal rights and nuclear disarmament rallies and people across the community embrace this opportunity to share this special day.
Palm Sunday rallies Australia wide will remind the Government that peace is possible but must be actively pursued, through keeping their promises in regard to withdrawing troops from the Middle East, progressing nuclear disarmament, keeping their anti-nuclear power stance for Australia and limiting sales of uranium to reduce nuclear proliferation.
Gecko Nuclear Free group extends a warm invitation to you and interested members of your congregation to join us between 4 - 6.30pm on Palm Sunday 16 March in the park beside Goodwin Terrace at Burleigh Heads to share this special day. For more information, contact Anna Bridle on 0431 510 957.
